Deontay Wilder is stepping into his upcoming fight against Derek Chisora with a clear understanding: he must win to keep his aspirations of reclaiming the heavyweight championship alive. Recently, he addressed the question of whether a loss would mean the end of his boxing career.
Known as 'The Bronze Bomber,' Wilder has faced challenges in recent bouts, with four losses out of his last six fights. On the surface, it appears he is quite distant from another opportunity for a title shot, especially considering his recent defeats to Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang.
Despite these setbacks, unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk has expressed interest in facing Wilder, suggesting that he wants to add the former champion's name to his impressive list of opponents. This potential match-up hinges on Wilder’s ability to defeat Chisora, who will be fighting for the 50th and final time against Wilder in London.
When asked if a defeat against Chisora would lead him to retire from boxing, Wilder shared in an interview with talkSPORT that he does not foresee that happening. "Not for me. I can’t see as far as I can throw, in that situation, but I can only go off what my heart is saying. I don’t feel [near] retirement because I don’t see myself losing, at all," he stated confidently.
Conversely, Chisora has announced that he plans to retire regardless of the outcome of their clash.
The highly anticipated Wilder-Chisora fight is scheduled to take place at the O2 Arena on Saturday, April 4. This event marks the inaugural promotion by KSI's new organization, Misfits Pro.
