The current scoring system was overhauled after the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Games scandal, where duplicate gold medals were awarded to Canadians Jamie Salé and David Pelletier due to vote-swapping and rigging allegations. The ISU's efforts to combat subjectivity include testing AI and computer vision technology for real-time movement tracking and technical element analysis.
