The Art of Everyday Transformation
Imagine stepping into a supermarket, but instead of the usual plastic-wrapped goods, you're surrounded by a unique, stone-crafted world. This is the intriguing concept brought to life by SolidNature and AMO, challenging our perceptions of the everyday.
A Stone-Cold Revolution
SolidNature's Il Sonno Supermarket installation during Milan Design Week was a bold statement. It presented a convenience store, a symbol of modern consumerism, but with a twist. Everyday items, from milk cartons to sandwiches, were transformed into durable stone objects, crafted from materials like marble and onyx. The message? A reflection on the power of choice and the value we place on our surroundings.
"At Il Sonno, we wanted to freeze the reflex of shopping in stone," says Samir Bantal, director of AMO. "It's a thought-provoking experience."
The Dreamlike Experience
The exhibition's title, Il Sonno, translates to 'sleep' in English. With mirrored walls and a surreal atmosphere, it aimed to create a dreamlike state, challenging the notion of time and consumer habits. The fluorescent lights and background music added to the surrealism, making visitors question their everyday routines.
A Demand for the Extraordinary
The popularity of the installation led to an interesting development. SolidNature, responding to visitor interest, decided to make limited editions of these stone objects available for purchase. This move highlights a growing appreciation for unique, artisanal creations, a departure from mass-produced goods.
"The beauty of natural stone is its uniqueness. Each piece tells a story," David Mahyari, CEO of SolidNature, explains.
A Broader Perspective
This project goes beyond design. It's a commentary on our relationship with the environment, the power of choice, and the potential for art to inspire change. By transforming everyday items into stone, SolidNature and AMO encourage us to reflect on our consumption habits and the value we place on natural materials.
Final Thoughts
SolidNature's collaboration with AMO is a fascinating exploration of art, design, and consumerism. It leaves us with a thought-provoking question: How can we bring more awareness and intention into our daily lives?
