The Tecno Camon 50 Ultra promises a lot on paper, especially for its price point. It boasts a triple rear camera setup and a high-resolution selfie shooter, but is it a true successor to the impressive Camon 40 Premier? Not quite. While it holds its own in some areas, it feels like a step back in others, leaving us wondering if it's a strategic downgrade or a realignment of the Camon series.
A Tale of Two Cameras (and a So-So Third)
Let's start with the good. The main 50MP camera, now sporting a different Sony sensor, delivers excellent daylight performance. Photos are vibrant, well-exposed, and packed with detail. Human subjects look fantastic, with accurate skin tones and impressive facial detail. The 2x zoom, utilizing the main camera's capabilities, also produces surprisingly good results, making it a solid choice for close-ups.
But here's where it gets controversial: the telephoto camera, while boasting a 50MP sensor, feels underwhelming. Images can be blurry, lacking the sharpness we'd expect, and the 5x zoom, achieved through software trickery, results in noticeably soft photos. And then there's the ultrawide camera. It's a clear downgrade from the Premier, with a lower resolution 8MP sensor and the loss of autofocus. While it captures decent shots in good light, it struggles with dynamic range and detail, especially in shadows.

Thankfully, the Camon 50 Ultra redeems itself with its selfie camera. The 50MP sensor, paired with a wide 20mm lens and autofocus, delivers stunning selfies. Expect excellent detail, vibrant colors, and a flattering field of view that's perfect for group shots or creative angles.
Low-Light Performance: A Mixed Bag
In low-light conditions, the main camera continues to impress, producing detailed images with good dynamic range. The 2x zoom remains usable, though detail suffers slightly.
